I like Anderson's other books- or at least most of them. She has the ability to tell a good story, and it usually involves emotions, and gorgeous men, and their feelings equally as much as a woman's emotions and strength. Spoiler alert...This girl moves to a remote cabin left to her and her twin by her recently deceased mother. Okay- the cabin scene has been done a lot[boy next door who wants no woman in his life. The competitor wants the woman for all the wrong reasons and invents a trap to own her or else. They come to blows. This felt more like a quick story written out to meet some deadline. I had trouble finding any substance at all. I don't mind the sex, and I don't mind the shifter story, but I do like to have a story with something in it and thought that this one lacked that.Product details

This is quite a departure from the norm for Ms. Anderson. If you're looking for Kindred, you won't find them here. A lot of reviews will tell you the story. I don't like to give anything away, so I'll give you my impressions. Thew concept of a woman of 40, suddenly reversing aging is attractive, to say the least. The only thing better would if she were Menopausal. I passed 40 many many years ago, and Menopause would be worth it if every hot flash made you younger. Another twist is while one can find Shifters everywhere, you won't find Prehistoric Shifters. Our hero turns into a giant Elk, and his rival for our lovely lady is a Prehistoric Sabertooth Tiger. The supporting characters are well rounded and lend a complex dynamic to the story.
I've read all the Kindred and the Alien Mate Index books, which I thoroughly enjoyed so I knew this would be good. I've already pre-ordered the next book in this series. I really hope she keeps this going. Very well done.

This new series is an interesting twist on shifters. The shifters in this series aren't run of the mill shifters, they turn in to the pre historic form of their animal spirits. Also interesting is the concept of rejuvenation. These two concepts are not what we usually find in shifter stories. The internal battle Mathis was facing after the death of his wife ten years ago, combined with Sadie's ignorance of all things shifter did make this an interesting read.
I thought this was a great beginning to a new series. I look forward to reading the next. I felt Sadie was funny and strong. Even though timid at times she didn't let the men of Cougarville push her around. Mathis was a brooding hero but once you get to know him he is gentle and kind. If you like stories that make you laugh and than feel hot allover, this is a great story to read.
I really enjoyed the Kindred series so it seemed rationale to read Evangeline's' new series. The book was short and enjoyable and certainly was good for a quick and easy read. I was disappointed as the book lacked the depth or detail of some of her other works. While this book was good and I won't be deleting it it was this authors best work. If you like the author you should still enjoy the read.

I admire the author for changing thing up and writing a book with a very different setting shape changers in contemporary US. I've liked most of her other books, some more than others.
This one, not so much. The best I can say is that the free sample is charming and funny; and I loved his beast. The writing is probably intended to be humorous, but only I only laughed during the free sample.
The leading lady is a doormat. She stays in a lackluster marriage for 20 years, knowing that her husband chronically cheats. She only divorces when it is her husband's decision. When she is treated very badly in her new town, she does not stand up for herself. I kept hoping she would pack up and leave, or go to the police and press charges, or swear vengeance and go around town doing vandalism, or mace somebody. Seriously, she is living in a fully furnished house that she owns. All she needs to do is throw her suitcase in the car and drive away. Alas, no, she just takes all of the poor treatment and says thank you. The townsfolk (shape changers) treat her steadily worse and worse as the book progresses, so her doormat personality just get more and more annoying.
There are many plot inconsistencies around the shape shifters, their laws, and how they propagate. None of this makes any sense. They should all be extinct. I've other complaints, like his mopey personality, her invisible kids, and her total lack of ability to plan in advance for anything breakfast, market research, how to succeed at a new business, you name it.
Overall, I just can't recommend this for $4. Wait until the price drops to $0.99. Or buy it expecting a 3-star book, and you'll probably be fine.

This is the first book in the series. It is for adults only due to the graphic violence and steamy scenes. This is my first time reading any of Evangeline’s work.
This is definitely an interesting and unique world. Like Sadie, I was lost as to what a Juvie was and what this new world was about until Mathis explained it. You really feel and understand what Sadie is going through because you were just as confused. Mathis is gruff and standoffish, but you don’t understand until later when he tells his story. Keller is really a jerk, and I’m not sure I even like him. We will see if he redeems himself in the future. Sammie is pretty cool, and I love her spunky attitude. It will be interesting to see if she will follow her sister and become a Juvie.
Evangeline does a fantastic job making the story come alive, and I can definitely see this series getting better and better. It takes me a couple books before I really mesh with a new author’s style and writing. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2.
I recommend this series to any shifter fan who wants a unique new world that isn’t the norm.
